Background of the Study

In Nigeria, broadcasting, particularly through radio and television, has emerged as a key medium for disseminating civic education content. In Kumbotso LGA, Kano State, local broadcasters engage citizens with content designed to enhance understanding of their rights, duties, and the political system. The study will explore the perceptions of local residents regarding the role of broadcasting in promoting civic education, and whether it effectively contributes to active citizenship and informed voting behavior in the community.

1.2 Statement of the Problem
Although broadcasting serves as a vital tool for delivering civic education, there is limited empirical evidence on how it is perceived by the public in Kumbotso LGA, especially concerning its effectiveness in shaping citizens' understanding of their role in society. The gap in knowledge about the impact of these broadcasts on community engagement in civic activities underscores the need for this study. This research will investigate the extent to which broadcasting is perceived as an effective medium for enhancing civic awareness and participation in Kumbotso LGA.

1.3 Objectives of the Study

  3. Broadcasting influences the political engagement and voting behavior of residents in Kumbotso LGA.

1.6 Significance of the Study

1.7 Scope and Limitations of the Study
The study will focus on the perception of broadcasting as a tool for civic education within Kumbotso LGA, Kano State. It will explore the types of civic education content broadcasted, the audience’s level of engagement, and the influence of these broadcasts on political participation. Limitations include the challenge of quantifying the direct influence of broadcasting on political behavior and other extraneous factors that may affect civic engagement.

1.8 Operational Definition of Terms
